I would say my top 5 fiction (not in any order) are:
1. Jorge Amado -- Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon
2. Jorge Amado - Dona Flor and her Two Husbands
3. Francisco Goldman -- Long Night of the White Chickens
4. Isabel Allende -- Eva Luna and Stories of Eva Luna
5. Laura Esquivel -- Like Water for Chocolate

Note  I didn't put G.G. Marquez! Or anything else of Isabel Allende. That was deliberate
